It's not too soon to start thinking about the upcoming fall/winter propane supply.
It seems like just yesterday we were talking about the low propane supply.

Growmark Energy Expert Harry Cooney says we have had some good builds in the propane supply since the winter season ended. "Since then we've had good builds in the propane arena for a couple of reasons," he says. "You had one of the warmest springs on record. At the same time we had a lot of new production come on line. The refineries jumped their operating rates about 10 percentage points from the upper 70's to the upper 80's. We did have some new demand in gasoline and diesel come around."
Cooney says half of the propane supply comes from the refining process while the other half comes from natural gas.
He says through June there was an increase in the propane supply. But what about now? "Just in the last couple of weeks we are starting to see stocks building," says Cooney. "Not quite to the level that they were. We need 2.5 million barrels per week. A recent report showed we only blew up by 500,000 barrels."
"We are going to have to watch the supply going into the fall," Cooney says. "It appears overall we are on target for at least 60 million, maybe even up to 70 million barrels going into the heating season."
So is that enough? "It looks like propane stocks will be adequate going into the fall and winter heating season," Cooney says. "Keep in mind we probably won't have much grain drying this year depending on what happens over the next couple months."
Cooney says it's a good idea to talk with your local FS dealer and lock in your propane supply if you haven't already done so.
