Overnight storms dump heavy rains over southern half of Illinois

Unusually warm weather spawned severe thunderstorms early Tuesday morning, bringing heavy rains.

Overnight thunderstorms brought strong winds and heavy rainfall to the southern half of Illinois early Tuesday.  The National Weather Service reported rainfall totals above one inch across a wide swath of Central Illinois.

The latest forecast calls for colder temperatures the remainder of the week, before a big warmup brings spring-like temperatures across Illinois this weekend.
