Be careful what you wish for. The rains have gone, and the heat showed up. After a few large rain events, the last two weeks have dried up and the heat has been building, ending the spring planting season. At this point, crop scouting should be done looking down the rows (not across) and at speeds greater than 20 miles per hour. There will be plenty of time to worry about the holes this fall when the late season weeds start showing up. With the almost eight-week planting season, it is nearly impossible to guess the overall condition, but it does cover the spectrum of conditions. Looks like we will spend the rest of the summer trying to protect what we have.
