On Sunday, my wife and I went for ride along the backroads to check the status of the planting season. We found several fields of corn seedlings about 2 inches tall. Emergence must have been good since we could see the corn rows through the field. We also observed several alfalfa fields recently sprayed. We noticed some insect feeding on the upper plant leaves. Since my last report, fieldwork has been limited to a couple of days between rains. Additional plantings and anhydrous applications were made during those days. Spray applications were limited due to the high winds and wet soil conditions. We have received about 1.5 inches of rain for the week and daytime temperatures warmed up to between upper 70s to low 80s. Local grain bids are corn, $7.02; and soybeans, $15.43. Have a safe week.
