Those interested in gaining valuable experience in the livestock industry have some upcoming opportunities available with the Illinois Beef Association (IBA) and Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA).

Both groups are currently accepting applications for internships in 2021.

IBA offers one summer internship and three Illinois Beef Expo internships for next year.

The IBA internship requires applicants must be a full-time college student and a current Illinois Junior Beef Association member from a family that is actively involved in beef production. The internship spans from mid-May through the Illinois State Fair.

The three internships to assist with the Illinois Beef Expo, scheduled for Feb. 25-28, 2021, include the same requirements. Interns also cannot exhibit or compete in the event. The internships span from Feb. 24-28, 2021.

For information about the IBA internships, visit the website {illinoisbeef.com}. Applications are due Dec. 1.

IPPA currently is recruiting for the 2021 State Ambassador internship. This individual will serve as a representative of the association and pork industry during the upcoming year.

Main duties of the State Ambassador internship, which is focused on education and communication, include managing the birthing center at the Illinois State Fair, doing pork presentations at Summer Ag Institutes around the state and various other tasks.

Qualified candidates are between the ages of 18 and 23 and have an interest in the pork industry. Strong communication and leadership skills are desired. Those who previously attended the Illinois Livestock Leadership Institute are highly encouraged to apply.

Applications for the IPPA internship are available online at {ilpork.com} and are due Nov. 2. Return applications to jenny@ilpork.com or mail them to the IPPA office in Springfield.
