Cattlemen will hear the latest practices for controlling costs, managing water and improving herd health at the Aug. 2 Beef Field Day at the University of Illinois' Dixon Springs Agricultural Center, near Simpson.

The registration deadline is July 28.

The free event starts at 5 p.m. A complimentary meal will be provided by the Shawnee Beef Association.

Topics and speakers include:

  • Controlling costs in a beef cow/calf enterprise, Travis Meteer, Illinois Extension beef educator;
  • Water as a management tool, Jay Solomon, Illinois Extension natural resources, environment and energy educator;
  • Overcoming herd health challenges, Teresa Steckler, Illinois Extension beef educator; and
  • Research updates, Dan Shike, U of I animal sciences professor.
