Those interested in the Illinois Performance Tested (IPT) bull sale who have health or safety concerns due to the coronavirus pandemic have options.

This year’s event Feb. 25, which will be held at Lowderman Auction facility near Colchester, west of Macomb, allows for bids to be placed online or over the phone.

“It’s exciting to be able to have a sale this year,” Travis Meteer, University of Illinois Extension beef specialist, told the RFD Radio Network. “It’s at a new location on the same date. You can bid over the phone.”

The sale catalog for the 53rd annual event can be found online. More information about the sale or bidding options also can be obtained by calling 217-430-7030.

The catalog contains a description of requirements for the bulls, including genomic testing and extensive health testing to ensure the highest expected progeny difference possible.

“We’ve got a good set of bulls consigned,” Meteer said. “You know what you’re buying. These cattle are elite.”

The IPT bull sale begins at 11 a.m. Feb. 25. The Mid-American Simmental Sale will be held the following day, Feb. 26, at noon, all in conjunction with the Illinois Beef Expo.

The IPT bull sale has moved 4,852 bulls valued at more than $8.9 million during the past 52 years.
