Since the Illinois Secretary of State reopened three facilities to process only commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs), operations have been running smoothly, according to Dave Druker, Secretary of State press secretary.
“People have been very good at wearing masks and maintaining social distance,” Druker told FarmWeek Wednesday. All drivers are asked to supply and wear their own personal protective gear, because driver facilities do not supply any.
Secretary of State Jesse White opened three facilities, one each in northern, central and southern Illinois. About 600 individuals had started, but weren’t able to complete the CDL process before statewide shelter-in-place orders took effect.
The offices in West Chicago, Springfield and Marion offer CLD written tests, but appointments are needed for pre-trip testing and road testing. To make an appointment for any facility, call 217-785-3013.
